Firstly, lets all accumulate the fact that 2018 just began and summer is already on its way. That was fast. But then, theres nothing i love more than the summer season with all its beauty and that crazy lawn frenzy that begins with it- an obsession only a Pakistani girl can understand and never get over. Standing in crazy hour long lines in the scorching, blistering lahore heat for starters, and to reserving our most favourite prints before they get sold out at Sanaullah’s is on every Pakistani girls ‘Been there, done that list’.
And then, if you’re a designer yourself or lucky to have Sobia Nazir as your aunt like us, you will have your DM’s FULL of people messaging you on how they’re desperately looking for the hot selling prints that are nowhere to be found and wanting to find out if there’s going to be any chances of a re-run of those prints. The stories are endless, and not to forget equally hilarious, but thats what i love about our country; Going crazy over something we’re so proud to be trending in!
So another year passes by in a whirlwind, bringing the summer season and the constant buzz of lawn launches and soirees with it, and through all this, we bring you with the list of the most promising lawn this season:
1. Sobia Nazir
Yes, she was, is, and will always be on our number one not because she’s my aunt but because nobody does lawn business quite like her! Love how her work speaks in volumes for itself with the most beautiful pastel shades and just the perfect amount of embroideries, with her classic net dabutta’s and beautiful tassel work. Not just that, her floral prints are a breath of fresh air crafted in the most modern, yet wearable cuts! Her Lawn collection this year Fleur de exquisitè is shot in the beautiful London city amidst the thickly planted location giving view to the picturesque London. So, for us the Lawn queen title goes to her for sure!
2. Elan-By Khadijah Shah
Its safe to say that over all these years, Elan has bowled us over with their meticulous effort and we have yet to see a Lawn collection that hasn’t completely bowled us over. Taking the level notches higher, Elan never disappoints as their fabulous CEO brings out her creativity flair in the best possible manner through her picturesque and unique locations, perfect accessories and styling that has us in love. We haven’t gotten to see much of the collection as yet, but the teaser released is as promising as ever! Shot in the magical Brazil rich in its vibrant culture, Elan sure brings out every touch of that city in its silhouettes that have been crafted keeping in mind the zest of the location. Grandeur is the name of the game, and Elan scores is each time with flying colours. Don’t know if its going to be one. two, or the entire cart full of lawn for us this time.
3. Cross Stitch
So proud to be saying this is one campaign shot in the heart of our own country and makes an impact bigger than all the internationally shot ones. Cross Stitch has proved that they’re in the lead yet again with their regal and traditional lawn shot in the Thar desert adorned by none other than the beautiful Syra Shahroze who carries herself immaculately. The collection is everything glamorous with thread embroideries, floral and animal patches, not to forget amalgamation of geometrical and florals too that are a forte of this brand. The campaign is a burst of colour and our rich heritage and we can’t seem to get enough of it. Job well done team Cross Stitch.
4. Farah Talib Aziz
Minimalistic chic is the right word for this designer as she knows how to let her outfits do the talking with dreamy laced and scalloped borders on stylish silhouettes. Team FTA goes in the roots of the rich, cultural capital of the east Kyoto, Japan and brings us the best of this collection with dark colours and just the prettiest detailing of the Japanese prints and patterns done in laser appliqué and tassels on the pants. Love, Want, Need!
Haven’t heard much about this brand earlier, but their lawn this season looks pretty promising, especially the way it has been designed! The collection is something I’m a total sucker for with delicate detailing of fur on the sleeves and the pants, and modern cuts with beautiful chiffon and silk dubattas. The colour palette also contains the perfect pastel shades and i can’t wait to get my hands on some of the outfits!
